Creamy layer concept confusing, says KarunanidhiApril

19th, 2008 - 9:40 pm ICT by admin -
Chennai, Apr 19 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) leader, M Karunanidhi, on Saturday said that the word “creamy layer” in the Supreme Courts verdict on Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation is “confusing”.
Karunanidhi wrote in his party mouthpiece Murasoli that the apex court verdict had stated that the Government could make a relaxation to some extent in the income limit prescribed so that sufficient number of candidates could be made available for filling the 27 per cent quota fully.
But the benefit derived from this would amount to concession, Karunanidhi said adding his party demanded reservation for OBCs as a matter of right and not as concession.
Reservation should be given to OBCs through a law and not by concession, he added. (ANI)

Creamy layer concept must be enforced in reservations otherwise OBCs will be straddled with their own Brahmins.

Netizens debate the Olympic stand-off

NDTV Correspondent
Tuesday, April 8, 2008 (New Delhi)
At precisely eight minutes past 8 pm on August 8 - the eighth day of the eighth month of the year 2008 - the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, this year's Summer Olympics, will officially open in Beijing. But with the relentless protests around the world and the increasing calls for boycott, are we looking forward to a peaceful Olympics this time?Though the modern Olympics, ever since its inception in 1896, have rarely been short of discord and dispute, Beijing may outmatch all previous events and turn out to be the most controversial Olympics in over 20 years. The Olympic flame represents the positive values that Man has always associated with fire. It spreads a message of peace and friendship amongst peoples. But, with the ongoing Tibetan uprising in China, the run-up to the Games have got mired in an intriguing mishmash of ancient history and modern politics. With 30,000 foreign journalists expected at the Games, the Communist state will come under the global glare as never before. A host of civic groups, Tibetan supporters, environmentalists and religious organisations see an apposite opportunity to highlight human rights abuses in a country that ordinarily cracks down hard on any coordinated criticism. And for the first time in the history of the Games, there have been attempts to sabotage the torch relay at several places. But is this the right opportunity to show our solidarity for a cause which is bound to have political repercussions? Shouldn't sports and politics be kept apart? Or, is the influence of politics on the Games, or for that matter on any sport or sporting event, inevitable? What do you think?Join our debate. Voice your opinion.

Sachin Tendulkar, Amir Khan and others are getting ready to carry the Olympics torch in relay saying that we should not mix sports and politics, thereby belittling the Tibetan issue as mere politics and not that of freedom. Moreover, these worthies are not worried about mixing sports and money. In fact it would seem that many sportsmen, particularly in cricket, have more of money in mind than the game itself.

I don’t want to run in Olympic relay as caged woman: Bedi

Zeenews Bureau New Delhi, April 09: Magsaysay Awardee Dr Kiran Bedi refused to carry the Olympic torch by saying that she doesn’t want to run in the event as ‘caged woman’. She also slammed the tight security arrangements for the event. “Better to let the torch travel on wheel or with the army”, a visibly upset Bedi said.Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has been invited to attend the Indian leg of Olympic torch relay, scheduled to be held on April 17 in New Delhi. President of IOA, Suresh Kalmadi, informed that some young members of parliament (MPs) including Rahul Gandhi have been invited. “Though I am yet to meet Rahul personally, but formal invitation has been sent to him,” Kalmadi told a private TV channel here. However, sources close to Gandhi family disclosed that the young Gandhi is unlikely to accept the invitation. Though the reason behind Gandhi’s stand is not yet clear. Earlier, batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who has been ruled out of the ongoing Test series against South Africa, has been invited to carry the Olympic torch. Other greats from diverse fields like Leander Paes, actors Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan, Tata Consultancy Services CEO Subramanian Ramadorai, Ingram Micro India CEO Jaishankar Krishnan and orthopaedic surgeon Dr Vaibhav Bagaria from Nagpur will also take part in the event. Ex Olympian Milkha Singh and India’s number one golfer Jyoti Randhawa too have confirmed their participation in the event. The torch-relay is taking place in the wake of worldwide protests by Tibetans against the crackdown in Lhasa. India’s football captain Baichung Bhutia is the only notable exception to have heeded the calls for boycotting the relay.

MNS turns wrath on private firms in Maharashtra

Zeenews Bureau Mumbai, April 09:
After attacking North Indians in general and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan in particular, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has now taken on private firms operating in the Western state. In a letter dispatched to six private firms operating in Maharashtra, the MNS has asked them to fill at least 80% of the posts with locals or ‘bhoomiputras’ – those who had been living in the state for the past 15 years. If the companies failed to heed to the MNS call, they won’t be allowed to function in the state, the letter said. The MNS is also holding an emergency meeting, which is being attended by party workers from all over the state. The threat to private firms follows MNS workers’ recent attacks on North Indians working in Maharashtra for allegedly snatching away jobs from Marathi people. Party chief Raj Thackeray had also launched a scathing attack on Amitabh Bachchan, accusing him of doing nothing for the state where he had been living and working for the past four decades. Thackeray had said the actor was instead more worried about Uttar Pradesh, where he was born.

NDTV Correspondent
Tuesday, April 8, 2008 (New Delhi)
A high-level committee of bureaucrats will now go through the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission and change it.The committee hopes to correct the difference in pay between the military and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. The exercise could take over two months, and is expected to be completed by the end of June. The military had been objecting saying the jawans have got a raw deal and bigger hikes are needed to retain the current lot.
The Armed forces personnel should be exempt from Income Tax, just as the farmers are.

Red guards for Olympic torch relay in Delhi?

Published on Tue, Apr 08, 2008 at 13:35
New Delhi: National Security Guards and helicopters will guard the Olympic torch during its three-km relay in New Delhi on April 17, but India is yet to decide on China’s request to allow its commandos to accompany the flame.
The Communist nation has requested that its elite China Red Guards commandos accompany the torch, sources tell CNN-IBN. China has requested that its commandos be allowed into India a few days before the relay on Delhi’s Rajpath.
India is arranging a three-tier security for the torch relay but a high-level government meeting on Monday didn’t reach a decision on the Chinese request. "As far as the Government of India is concerned, we are committed to provide complete security to the Olympic Torch," said Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma.
"We are confident of ensuring the relay of the torch in India with respect and security. Our officers and security agencies are capable of providing complete security to the Olympic torch," said Sharma.
Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon and Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta discussed the Chinese request on Monday, report newspapers.
Widespread disruptions of the Olympic torch relay because of protests against China may lead to the dropping of the international section of the run from future games, IOC officials said Tuesday.
Torch of trouble
Thousands of raucous protesters angry about China's hosting of the Olympics Games, its policies in Tibet and human rights record haunted the torch relay across the British and French capitals this week.
More problems were expected Wednesday in San Francisco, the only North American leg of the relay.
China has denounced the protests in London and Paris as despicable, but vowed Tuesday to continue the relay to the end.
On Monday, organizers were forced to cancel the last third of the Paris route after demonstrators hurled water at the flame and lunged at torchbearers. The security detail protecting the torch had to repeatedly extinguish it along the route and retreat to the safety of a bus, although the Olympic flame continually burns in a lantern brought along the route.
China's Foreign Ministry blamed the disruptions on groups seeking to split Tibet from the rest of China.
Sun Weide, a spokesman for the Beijing organizing committee, said the relay was ''sabotaged'' by Tibetan separatists and called the demonstrations ''blasphemy'' against the Olympic spirit.

The Olympics is an international event and is only hosted by different countries every 4 years. The torch relay is the responsibility of each country the torch passes through. The Communist regime in China should not behave as if Olympics is a communist party event. To hell with their red guards!

`Rahul purifies himself after meeting Dalits`

Zeenews BureauAzamgarh, UP, April 07: UP Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday launched a scathing attack on Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi accusing him of misleading Dalits. Speaking at a rally here she alleged that Rahul performs purification rituals after meeting Dalits. She said that he washes himself with a special soap after interacting with Dalits. "Congress is losing no stone unturned to woo Dalits and is sending it`s prince (Rahul Gandhi) to live and eat with Dalits in various places just only to garner their votes. "I have also come to know that when this prince returns to his home in Delhi after meeting and eating with Dalits, he is given a bath with a special soap and he goes through purification rituals with incense and incense sticks," she said addressing a meeting here. Congress has strongly denied the allegations. Rahul Gandhi has been touring Dalit areas extensively in an attempt to reach out to the community. Last week at a Congress convention in Kanpur, Gandhi attacked Mayawati of only mouthing platitudes for Dalits, who, he said, were feeling "cheated" in Uttar Pradesh as no one seemed to care of them. On the occasion, he narrated the story of a Dalit who held his hand and took him to his house during his recent visit to Etawah and showed the pitiable condition in which he was living with no power and no basic amenities. Quoting that Dalit, he said "Indiaraji aur kanshiram hamare bare mein sochte the.... Hamare saath dhokha hua hai` (Indiraji and Kanshiram used to think about us...We have been cheated). The young Congress MP narrated another story from his experience during his 4-day tour of Karnataka and said that at a village he found some youth from UP working in a field there. On being asked why they were working in Karnataka, they told him that the "future of youths of UP lies in Karnataka". "These two stories tell us about the state of affairs in UP," he said adding these stories need to be re-written if Uttar Pradesh has to moved ahead.

Though I am no Rahul fan, I can’t imagine him having any problems with being among Dalits. Mayawati is spreading caste hatred and she should be disqualified from holding the CMs post.

I never spoke against Karnataka: Rajinikanth

CNN-IBN
New Delhi: Under fire from pro-Kannada outfits and political party leaders for his reported remarks about the protests in Karnataka against the Hogenakkal water project, superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday rejected the allegation that he insulted Kannadigas.
He has clarified that during the fast by members of the Tamil film industry in Chennai last week, he only criticised those who were creating trouble saying that such people be ‘kicked.’
He said he was not referring to all. The actor was upset by the storm of criticism his remarks evoked in Karnataka, which included a demand for his apology.
"It is a malicious propaganda unleashed against me by some people. I am not an unwise person to pass remarks that offend the sentiments of the people of Karnataka," he said.
Upset by the storm of criticism his remarks evoked in Karnataka, including a demand for his apology and threats to block screening of his films, the actor said: "Do these people who are demanding my apology represent 5.5 crore Kannadigas?”
"I haven't done any wrong. But I am not averse to tendering an apology if I had committed any wrong," he said.
Kannada group snubs star
Pro-Kannada group, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, has rejected Rajinikanth’s clarifications and said it wants an apology from the actor and the Tamil film industry.
“The Tamil film industry and Rajinikanth should ask for pardon or we won't let their films run here. Should they want to come to Karnataka we won't let them enter our land. Rajinikanth said we are beating Tamilians in Karnataka but that is a wrong statement,” said D P Anjanappa, Bangalore unit president of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike.
In 2002, Rajinikanth became the target of attack after he refused to participate in the Tamil film industry's rally on the Cauvery issue.
He then went on a much-publicised fast asking for a peaceful settlement and interlinking rivers.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday announced that the Hogenakkal drinking water project, that had sparked off bitter protests across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, will be on hold till elections in Karnataka are over.
Karunanidhi's breather came after widespread protests in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the Hogenakkal project.
Karunanidhi has said that the violence should not spread in the name of Hogenakkal during elections in Karnataka.

A megastar Rajnikant may be. But it is clear that he is not mature enough to step into any political leadership role. He said that it is well within the right of Tamil Nadu to go ahead with the project as it is on the Tamil Nadu side of the border and anyone questioning the Tamil right should be trashed. Trashed? Why did he use that word? Maybe he did not mean it. A careful look at the clip would show that he appeared to have regretted it the moment the word left his mouth. But he simply got carried away by his rhetoric. He did not have the finesse to save the situation then and there by saying something like … well that is what we might normally want to do, trash them. But no, we should not think on those lines ... etc. Well, you goofed it up, Rajni.

Sachin joins Olympic relay team, will carry torch

Published on Mon, Apr 07, 2008 at 17:48, Updated at Mon, Apr 07, 2008
New Delhi: Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar said on Monday he would be a part of the Beijing Olympic torch relay in Delhi on April 17.
Tendulkar, however, refused to comment on the controversy surrounding the protests, but said that he was looking forward to carrying the torch.
"It is a great honour for me. I grew up watching the Olympics and I am looking forward to carry the torch," Tendulkar told IANS.
The Bejing Games, which will be held from Aug 8-24, has run into trouble following China's crackdown in Tibet. The Tibetans have been protesting for a free nation.
On Sunday, thousands of protesters waving Tibetan flags and shouting "Shame on China" disrupted the London leg of the torch relay.
Tibetans and other human rights groups are planning similar protests in New Delhi on the day of the torch relay next week to voice their anger against China's Tibetan policy.
Fearing trouble from Tibetan protestors, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has already shortened the route of the Olympic torch relay. The original 8-9 km run from Red Fort to India Gate has been shortened to 2-3 km. Details of the redrawn route are being worked out.
"The government has taken up the issue and I think all security concerns will be taken care of. We are also planning out how to host the relay and I am hopeful that we will carry it out unhindered," Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi said.
National football captain Bhaichung Bhutia, a Buddhist, has refused to carry the Flame to show his solidarity with the Tibetans.
Former All England champion Pullela Gopichand and long jumper Anju Bobby George, too, confirmed on Monday that they would participate in the torch relay.
Earlier confirmations include athletes Milkha Singh and Gurbachan Singh Randhawa, shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu, tennis player Leander Paes and actor Aamir Khan. As many as 80 prominent Indians will carry the torch in Delhi.

Sachin Tendulkar continued to play cricket without uttering a word against Raj Thackeray (refused to comment on the controversy?) when Raj Thackeray preached violence against North Indians. Now Sachin wants to carry the Olympic torch (yet again “refused to comment on the controversy”) without uttering a word against the Tibetan suppression by the Communist regime in China. What a let down, Sachin!

Former Delhi CM Khurana re-inducted in BJP

New Delhi, April 04: Two years after he quit BJP openly criticising L K Advani, veteran Delhi leader Madan Lal khurana was on Friday re-inducted into the party after he expressed "regret" for his comments against the leader. The re-entry of the 71-year-old former Delhi Chief Minister assumes significance as it comes ahead of the assembly elections to be held by November. BJP president Rajnath Singh re-inducted Khurana after days of secret parleys and is seen as a move to re-energise the party in Delhi as he has considerable following in the Punjabi community of the capital. "He (khurana) has written a letter withdrawing his comments against the party and expressing regret over his remarks," a party leader said. The party, however, has made no commitment on giving any post to the former Delhi BJP strongman and discussions in this regard are expected in the next few days. Khurana refused to give any reaction immediately, saying he would speak on it later. Khurana, who was also former governor of Rajasthan, had severely criticised Advani in April 2006 over the Kandahar hijack episode and asserted that he could not work with him. He had taken objection to Advani's remarks that the former deputy Prime Minister had differed with the decision to release terrorists during the hijack crisis. Khurana had remarked that Advani's comments were aimed at showing himself as a "hero" and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as "zero". Interestingly, his re-entry comes at a time when the ghost of Kandahar has returned to haunt the BJP and Advani. Bureau Report

The problem with BJP leaders like Khurana and Uma Bharati is that they get carried away by their own rhetoric. What is paramount in an organization is discipline. This does not mean you cannot have your own opinion or question the organization’s line. Only, all questioning and disagreement must be within the organization’s forums and not made a public issue. If it is felt that there is no meeting ground, the leader should quit the organization and begin to publicly criticize the organization only then. And he or she should also not look forward to returning to the organization without anything substantial having changed. ‘We guarantee smooth, safe Olympics torch relay in India’

New Delhi, April 03: India’s junior Foreign Minister Anand Sharma on Thursday assured Beijing of smooth and safe Olympics torch relay in India. "The Government of India has a clear commitment and in the spirit of Olympics, we will guarantee the security of the torch," said Sharma while talking to reporters. The torch will reach national capital New Delhi on April 17 after a 130-day relay. India, which hosts Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama and his government-in-exile, has seen a wave of protests since China`s crackdown on anti-government demonstrations in Tibet in March. The country`s football captain, Bhaichung Bhutia, a Buddhist, has already refused to carry the Olympic torch in protest against China`s actions to suppress unrest in Tibet. But Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan remained committed to participating in the event despite receiving several requests to boycott the Olympic torch relay, as he wanted to keep the Beijing Olympics separate from the issue of human rights violations. Meanwhile, the Olympics torch has already made its first stop over at Kazakhstan`s biggest city, Almaty, amidst tight security, its first official stop in the international leg. The flame`s next stop over is Istanbul. It is due to return to Beijing on August 6. Bureau Report

Now that India has decided to have the relay, it is very important that topmost security be given because it is possible that the Chinese Communist party through its Indian agents may have planned to sabotage it in order to cause India problems and use it as an excuse to interfere in Arunachal Pradesh.

Sonia challenges Advani on Kandhar

Baneshwardham, April 03: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday questioned BJP leader L K Advani`s statement that he was not aware of the decision to send his Cabinet colleague Jaswant Singh on the plane with dreaded terrorists to Kandahar and wondered whether he was not trusted by the then Prime Minister on the issue. "Now the then Home Minister of NDA says he was not aware of it (Jaswant Singh accompany terrorists). If he was not aware of it, why did this happen? "What are we to understand? that the NDA Prime Minister did not trust him. Why so,?," she asked at a public meeting on the banks of the confluence of rivers Som, Mashi and Jakham in Dungarpur district during a short visit to this pilgrim centre for tribals. Picking on the contradictory statements from the NDA camp on the issue, Gandhi referred to former Defence Minister George Fernandes` statement that Advani was in the know of the Kandahar decision and asked why the then External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh has "not broken her silence". "Who is speaking the truth and who is not. Why are they hiding the truth?," asked Gandhi, whom Advani met on the day of `Holi` and gave her a copy of his recently-published auto-biography in a meeting that was meant to bring a thaw in their relations. Attacking the BJP, the UPA chairperson said BJP talked about nationalism and terrorism but did not anything about it. "I want to know which party pandered to terrorists and sent them away to Afghanistan. It was not the UPA but the BJP." Bureau Report

Can Sonia Gandhi categorically say that if she was the Prime Minister then she would not have released terrorists to save 180 Indians taken hostage? Whether Jaswant Singh travelled in the same plane as the terrorists or in a different plane is a non-issue, sought to be made out as a big issue by a Congress which had no role to play then. - K.Venugopal - Mumbai

Is Prakash Karat the most powerful man in India today?

CPI-M's tussle with the UPA on economic and foreign policy has confirmed that Prakash Karat is a hardcore Marxist. The General Secretary of the CPI-M dominates the headlines these days.
And when Karat is not threatening to withdraw support from the government over the Indo-US Nuclear Deal, he is making fiery speeches about the India’s national interest.
From foreign policy to economic reform, Karat can always be counted on to be the government's permanent opposition.
He said, “The Nuclear Deal will be nothing but paving the way for the imperialist US to dictate our foreign policy, which had remained non-aligned all these years. It is for the Congress leaders to decide in the next few weeks whether they were with the US or with the people of India. We are supporting the Manmohan Singh Government, not out of love, but to keep communal forces like the Bharatiya Janata Party from coming to power at the Centre.”
“The UPA Government has been pursuing the economic policies of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the US, which were suicidal for India and its farmers. The Centre should recall Ronen Sen if it has any sense of self-respect. Sen is working like an envoy of Bush, he added.
Karat's high ground while putting “national interest” on top of all other issues is seen as a commendable effort. But is Prakash Karat the most powerful man in the country today?
On CNN-IBN Face the Nation CPI-M Senior Leader, Dipankar Mukherjee, Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy and Senior Fellow, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy Ajay Shah debated the issue.
Is Prakash Karat the most powerful man in the country today?
Prakash Karat is a committed communist who has refused to dilute his party's leanings. The 59-year-old politician is seen more rigid and ‘ideologically rooted’ than his predecessors. In fact it is widely believed that it was Karat's tough line that denied Jyoti Basu the Prime Ministership in 1996.

It would be truer to call Prakash Karat the most powerful blackmailer in India today.

India takes rigid anti-Tibet stand

Press Trust of India
Thursday, April 3, 2008 (Beijing)
According to China, New Delhi has assured that it will not tolerate any political anti-Beijing activities by Tibetans on the Indian territory. For the second time in less than a week, China has briefed India on the Tibet issue.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi spoke over phone to his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee and exchanged views on bilateral relations, explaining Beijing's 'principled stand' on the Dalai Lama issue, the state media said on Thursday.''Mukherjee said the Tibet Autonomous Region is part of China's territory and India will never tolerate any political anti-China activities by Tibetans on the Indian Territory,'' official Xinhua news agency reported. In the conversation on Wednesday, Yang also told Mukherjee that it had been proved ''and will continue to be proven'' that any scheme by the ''Dalai Clique'', referring to the supporters of the Tibetan spiritual leader, to split and break China was ''doomed to failure.''The conversation comes after China's State Councilor Dai Bingguo's telephonic talk with National Security Adviser M K Naranayan on March 30 when he briefed him on the ''violent crimes'' in Lhasa and ''expounded'' China's stance on and concerns over the Tibet issue.

The UPA government need not have so readily assured China that India will muffle any Tibetan protest activity in India without asking China to assure India that it would give up all its claims over Arunachal Pradesh and Indian territory already occupied by it. Due to communist pressure, the UPA is betraying the Tibetans, just as it is turning a blind eye to Islamic terrorism for Muslim votes.

Cauvery row: 'PM must exert influence on TN'

April 02, 2008 15:44 IST
With Hogenakkal issue turning a political controversy ahead of Karnataka polls, former Chief Minister S M Krishna on Wednesday asked the Centre to 'exert' its influence on Tamil Nadu to put on hold the project.
What is the Cauvery dispute?
"Since there is no elected government in Karnataka now and within two months a popular government will take office, the project should not be allowed to go through by the Tamil Nadu," Krishna told media persons after his meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.
Krishna, who returned to active politics ahead of the assembly polls in the state, said he wanted the prime minister to 'exert' his influence on Tamil Nadu to understand the sensitivity on the issue.
"The harsh language used by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, whom we consider an elder statesman, has naturally provoked the protagonists and as a result of which the unhealthy development is taking place," Krishna said in an obvious reference to the violence in the state.
The prime minister said the decision on the project was taken when the NDA government was in office and he would certainly talk to all concerned for a settlement, he said.
Asked to comment on Tamil Nadu's contention that the project was within its state, he said, "Cauvery water was an inter-state river dispute. If Karnataka starts utilising water, which is available in Cauvery without reference to other agreement entered into between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, what would happen?" Krishna had also taken up the issue with Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday.

I think on issues like the Cauvery, BJP should take a nationalistic stand. If its Karnataka unit supports Karnataka against Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu unit supports Tamil Nadu against Karnataka, where is the nationalism in BJP?

More SIMI arrests

April 02, 2008 13:12 IST
Three more activists, including a trainer, of banned Students Islamic Movements of India were arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police on Wednesday.
"The trio identified as Amaan, Zakir Lala and Irfan Chhipa, were arrested from different places on Wednesday morning," Superintendent of Police (Indore) Anshuman Singh Yadav told PTI in Indore, adding that they belong to Nihalpura and Juna Risala areas of the city.
Yadav said Amaan was engaged in training SIMI activists, while Zakir had been the local chief of the banned outfit.
Chhipa was held for helping SIMI and carrying out other illegal activities. Earlier, he was arrested in 2006 on the same grounds, he said.
During interrogation, all the three confessed to have been working to strengthen the organisation at the behest of top SIMI leaders, he said.
More arrests were possible in the coming days in the wake of revelations made by the arrested activists, Yadav added.
Meanwhile, police have filed cases against them for involvement in illegal activities and for helping anti-national elements.
With Wednesday's arrest, 24 SIMI activists have been held within a week.
For the first time on March 27, police had arrested 13 SIMI activists, including its Madhya Pradesh Chief Safdar Nagori, who have been remanded to police custody till April 11.
Following this operation, seven more were arrested on March 31 and one was held on Tuesday.

Israel a reliable partner: Sushma Swaraj

Jerusalem, April 02: Describing Left's opposition to India's strategic relationship with Israel as an extension of its "anti-US" stance, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj has said that the Jewish state was a "reliable partner", and that the current government acknowledged it. "The Left parties are basically anti-US and therefore all those countries which are seen as allies of Washington are disliked by them. They do not like whatever America does while we look at things on a case to case basis with regard to the United States," Swaraj, on a three-day visit to Israel as the chairperson of Indo-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group, said. "We are not anti-US in principle but we oppose its policies which are against India's interest. We do not oppose anything just because it is done by America," she said. Swaraj stressed that ruling Congress-led government had not compromised on the "continuity in the foreign policy" with regard to ties with Israel despite pressures from Left. Lauding Israel for "demonstrating its reliability during the Kargil War", the BJP leader said that India felt confident that its trust won't be let down. "This is also one of the reasons why the current government has not accepted the demands of the Left parties", she said, adding that the concerns of Communists could not be seen as "legitimate". The Left parties have been constantly asking the UPA government to severe military ties with Israel. However, as of now, India stands as the largest buyer of Israeli arms and the chiefs of the three defence forces have also visited the country during the last two years. Highlighting a strong economic relationship between the two nations, Swaraj said that bilateral trade between the two countries had registered an impressive growth reaching the USD 3.3 billion-mark. Also, the recent visit by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, who was accompanied by chief ministers of three states, had seen an enhanced cooperation in the sector where India can benefit a lot from the Israeli experience, she said. The Indian legislator held wide-ranging discussions with her Israeli counterpart Isaac Ben and other lawmakers including Michael Eitan and former Deputy Defence Minister Ephraim Sneh. "There is a lot of warmth in relationship between the two countries which were clearly reflected in all my meetings", Swaraj said, adding that BJP had backed diplomatic ties with Israel since Jan Sangh days. She also rejected the charge that NDA government had "bowed down to pressures" in the Kandahar episode. Asked why the government didn't do an 'entebbe' kind of a rescue, the senior BJP leader said "the two incidents cannot be seen in the same context". Bureau Report

Among the big mistakes of Indian Foreign Policy under the long Congress regime since independence was its anti-Israel stance to appease its Muslim vote bank in India. If India had recognized Israel immediately after independence, two burning issues in India today would not have arisen - suicide of farmers and Islamic terrorism. Israel would have been a reliable partner in modernizing Indian agriculture and by now India would have become an agricultural superpower instead of the situation wherein our farmers are committing suicide even after the short-sighted Congress government of today is writing off farmers’ loans. Also, India would not have been compelled to become a weak state by appeasing to Islamic vote banks, which began by not recognizing democratic Israel and instead supporting the pro-Pakistan Arabs. - K.Venugopal - Mumbai

Boycotting Olympic torch run personal call: Bhutia

New Delhi: India football captian Bhaichung Bhutia’s decision to not participate in the Olympic torch relay has sparked a flurry of reactions.
One of India's greatest athletes, Olympian Milkha Singh has asked Bhutia to rethink his decision.
“I read Bhutia’s statement in papers. He is a renowned player but I feel politics should not be mixed with sport. In my view, sportsmen should stay away from politics. I am participating in the torch relay and Bhutia should also rethink his decision. The Central Government must take up the Tibet issue and resolve it so that our teams can participate in the Olympics,” he said.
Former Delhi police commissioner Kiran Bedi – who will be one of the torchbearers – too said there were “other ways of expressing solidarity with a cause”. She said Olympics torch should not be made an issue.
Bhaichung reacted to the remarks and told CNN-IBN his decision was “personal”.
“Decision not to carry Olympic torch is entirely personal, not political. I am not doing this on behalf of any organisation or group. I'm not even asking others to join me. Not carrying the Olympic torch was an obvious decision for me as I am against the violence and oppression in Tibet," he said.

Bravo Bhutia! May your act inspire more and more people to protest against the strangulation of religious freedom by Communist China not only in Tibet but in China itself.
