In his first Lok Sabha speech post the Mumbai terror attacks, opposition leader LK Advani said that entire opposition stands with the government against terror. Professing solidarity with the government Advani said that a strong message should be sent out to the world that we stand united in the war against terror. “In the fight against terror, we will fight till the end,” Advani asserted. He also assured the UPA that the NDA will back government’s every decision in the fight against terror. Appreciating the hard line being taken by the government, Advani said that he is glad that India is categorically stating Pakistani based LeT orchestrating Mumbai attacks. Quoting Pakistan President’s callous remarks about the Mumbai attacks committed by “non-state actors”, LK Advani claimed that such attacks were a part of a bigger conspiracy; committed with proper research and training. While talking about Pakistan’s reaction in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks where the former saw terrorists as “non-state actors”, LK Advani minced no words and blamed ISI – a cabal in Pak Army; answerable only to Pak army rather than its government behind the attacks. Adding that one fails to comprehend who is the final authority in Pakistan – the President, the Prime Minister or the Army. He exhorted that it was ISI which is responsible for atrocities in Afghanistan and India. Referring to a disclosure made by Husain Haqqani - Pakistan ambassador in US, Advani said that Haqqani accepts LeT being funded by Saudi money and Pakistan terrorists. Branding as gimmick, Advani was not in not mood to accept the house arrests of LeT Chief and other terrorists who are later set free. However, Advani said that he was sceptical with the involvement of UNSC in Mumbai attacks stating in regard to the Kashmir issue and called for the need to adopt ways to pressurize Pakistan diplomatically rather than going to UNSC as it would be akin to a big mistake. Reiterating that terror has no relation with Islam, Advani quoted a pamphlet released by LeT Chief Hafiz Mohd. Saeed – “Jehad includes the restoration of Islamic rule in all parts of India”. Advani said that Indian Muslims should be wary of such politicization of Islam. He finally concluded that Indian will not compromise on Kasmir issue as it is an integral part of India. He condoled the deaths of common men and women who became targets of terrorism along with the bravery of security forces and officers like Hemant Karkare, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Tukaram Umble and Vijay Salaskar who laid down their life in the line of duty. Recollecting one of the TV images where a NSG commando tells media crew that “nothing is impossible for us”, Advani said we should imbibe such powerful spirit to combat terror.

Advani is wrong is stating that terror has no relation with Islam. Islam was begun by Mohammad by destroying idols of another religion in Mecca. -K.Venugopal - Mumbai
