The controversy-ridden 11th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2010 is turning into an ill-fated event, at least for many Indian actors. The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) has threatened to boycott all the actors who attend the IIFA awards which begins to at Colombo, Sri Lanka.
SIFCC had earlier called for banning the event and it was endorsed by big south Indian actors. Superstar Kamal Hassan appealed to change the venue but it went to the deft ears of the organisers. So, he along with Khushboo, director Mani Ratnam and others have decided to skip the event to show their support for the cause of the Tamilians.
Many Bollywood actors including Amitabh Bachchan, the brand ambassador of IIFA, has decided to stay away from the event. Actors like Shahrukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Aishwarya Bachchan and others are not attending it. However, actors who have confirmed their presence at the event include Hrithik Roshan, Suniel Shetty, Salman Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Dino Morea, Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh and others.
The event which will be concluded on June 5, earned the wrath of the Tamilians over the choice of its venue. They alleged that holding the event in Sri Lanka, after all the atrocities metted to the Tamilians in the country, would give out the message that the island country has come back to normalcy.

Dear Lale, The Tamil insurgency arose because it was felt that the Tamils were being treated as second class citizens in their own country. Now the Sinhalese must rehabilitate the displaced Tamils and go on to treat them as equal citizens of Sri Lanka. Otherwise, India itself would send its army to create Tamil sovereignty in Sri Lanka.

Now that the war and IIFA is over, let SIFCC come forward and make a movie on the legendary Prabhakaran and LTTE. The profits of the film should be donated to help rehabilitate the Tamils of Jaffna. Merely shedding crocodile tears is not enough.

the people attending are confined to hindi movies, the other actors who boycoted the awards are well known all over india and world.just see the list Amitabh bachchan,Rajnikanth,Kamal Hasan,Mummootty,Mohan lal ,chiranjeevi, venkatesh,Sridevi,Aishwarya rai.I think they are legends and more important personalities than people attending Hrithik Roshan, Suniel Shetty, Salman Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Dino Morea, Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh and others who...

Dear Ravindran Nadarajah, The whole world knows what happened in Sri Lanka and the Tigers fought valiantly for independence. Now the war is over. We have to join hands with Sri Lankan government for peace. Or is SIFCC going to lead another war?

Dear Vani, the IFFA show can lead towards helping Sri Lankan Tamils. The cowards at SIFCC did not help Prabhakaran to win the war. And now they do not want to help the Tamils there to win the peace. Boycotting is just a display of SIFCC ego.

dear VENUGOPAL, WE ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE, U R A BRAHMIN AND SO IS UR VIEW. SO HERE IS NO USE TALKING TO YOU. NORTH INDIANS ARE LEAST BOTHERED ABOUT SOUTH INDIANS IS A FACT WELL KNOWN FOR DECADES, STILL SOUTH INDIA IS MUCH BETTER IN TERMS OF SOCIAL INDICATORS.
By: Venugopal On: 06 Jun 2010 6:46 pm
I do not belong to the Brahmin caste. Why are you trying to make it a north Indian vs. south Indian issue? We are all Indians and therefore we are also Tamilians, Malayalis, Bengalis, Maharashtrians etc. You could do nothing to help Prabhakaran and now you are trying to be a Tamil saviour by attacking north Indians. Truly cowardly.

Srilankan govt killed thousands of innocent tamil people. Several other countries had logged human right violation complaint against srilanka including United States. But bollywood is going to dance for srilanka to makeup good image. This hurts tamil and other people who knew what happened in srilanka. SELFISH BOLLYWOOD. thanks for some good people who were boycotted.

Whom does boycott help? The Tamil film industry should talk to Sri Lankan government to set up a satellite Tamil film industry in Jaffna so that Tamils there can be employed and the local economy given a boost. War gained nothing for Tamils in Sri Lanka. We have to now try the way of peace and the Tamil film industry, which did not fight when Tamil Tigers were sacrificing their lives, should at least now be alongside the long suffering Tamils in Sri Lanka and bring them self-confidence and...

Dear Viva, The war is over. Only Prabhakaran fought to the end for the Tamils. The Tamils of India only offered lip service. Since they did not help their Tamil brothers in war, at least let them help in peace. The Tamil film can take the lead. Boycotting will not help.

It is pathetic the way they justify the genocide of Tamils by saying they have to help Sri-lankans. How are they gonig to help Tamils who have been discriminated, killed, raped and put in concentration camps with no access to outsiders? Can they even request to go to war affected area? if they think they can help the people by the show, they are doing injustice to the people who have been brutally massacred by Sri-Lankan government. Would you haev gone and danced with Nazi hitler to help the...

Bollywood film stars should go to srilanka.LTTE denied the request of sri lankan govt. to come to negotiation table. and as LTTE did not understand the language of non-violence.war was the only option left for srilanka to secure its sovereignty. ltte used their own people as a human shield in the war, which was pathetic. ltte was among the major terrorist organisations in the world. If we now as Indians boycott the IIFA citing the reason of war then we are making a mistake. it is like pro-ltte.it...

I think SIFCC is taking a position that smacks of fascism. India can help Sri Lankan Tamils best if we have good relations with the Sri Lankan government. Moreover, there is also an element of hypocrisy in SIFCC's position because all through the Tamil struggle in Sri Lanka SIFCC's support did not add to much except lip service. Did anyone from the Tamil Film industry go to Sri Lanka to fight shoulder to shoulder for the Tamil cause? Even now, has the Tamil film industry done anything to help...

Even now, has the Tamil film industry done anything to help the displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka? Instead of boycotting IIFA, it should participate in the event and, now that the war is over, seek to set up a Tamil film industry Jaffana and plan to do film shoots there. This will benefit everyone concerned. Instead of doing such things, they are going in for a meaningless boycott where everybody losses. Shame on SIFCC.

By: VenugopalOn: 03 Jun 2010 8:42 pm
So what did the Tamil film industry do when the actual massacre was going on? Now the war is over. Is the Tamil film industry planning to go to war on behalf of Sri Lankan Tamils? Let them at least help by doing the only thing they can - setting up a satellite Tamil film industry in Jaffna.
