The Sunni Central Wakf Board on Tuesday decided to challenge the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya title suits in the Supreme Court and asserted no person had been authorised to explore possibilities of an out-of-court settlement.
The Wakf Board, a litigant in the Ayodhya title suit, held an emergency meeting here and decided to challenge the High Court's verdict in the Supreme Court, Wakf Board Chairman Zafar Ahmad Farooqui said.
"On the basis of the legal advise from experts, it was decided to challenge the verdict in the apex court," he said.
No date had yet been fixed on moving the Supreme Court, Farooqui said.
He said the Board had clarified that no person had been authorised by it to explore possibilities of an out-of-court settlement.
"We will move the Supreme Court only after getting a certified copy of the HC order," the Wakf Board Chairman said.
On the possibility of a negotiated settlement of the contentious issue, he said no person had been authorised by the Board to explore talks in this regard.
"If any person is negotiating with other parties, he is doing so on his own," Farooqui said.
Hashim Ansari, one of the litigants in the case, on Sunday claimed he had initiated talks after being asked by the Sunni Wakf Board.
"At its meeting, the Board resolved if any proposal of an out-of-court settlement is made by any party, it will be considered by the Chairman and appropriate decision will be taken after consultations among Board members," Farooqui said.
For the Muslims one structure incomplete as a mosque built by a foreigner after destroying a temple and subsequently the cause of much riots, litigation and hardly used as a mosque for considerably long periods of time is more important than a spot held sacred by Hindus around the world as the birthplace of Sri Ram. It proves that the Muslims do not wish to respect any other religion if they can have their way. The Hindus must not allow a Babri masjid in Ayodhya. Given a little space, Muslims will, like the proverbial Arabic camel which kicked out the Bedouin and took over the whole tent, once again seek to evict Hindus from Ayodhya.
