Bharatpur fire: 10 held for manufacturing crackers illegally

Ten persons were on Thursday arrested after explosions at an illegal cracker factory here killed 18 people. Eighteen people including four women and ten children were killed and 18 others injured when six houses collapsed following explosions at an illegal crackers factory at Deeg yesterday, SHO Deeg police station Dharmendra Kumar told reporters over phone.. Of the 18 injured, three persons sustained fractures in the leg and were referred to Bharatpur for treatment, he said. Ten persons have been arrested in this connection and more arrests are likely, Kumar said. The explosions triggered in the factory resulted in the collapse of several adjoining house burning scores of people, he said. Senior police officials, including Bharatpur district superintendent of police Rohit Mahajan, are camping at the site of the incident since last night and are supervising the rescue operation. He said more bodies are feared buried under the debris and extra police force has been called in from the nearby area to assist the municipal officials in rescue operation. Bureau Report
