No CBI inquiry into Orissa nun rape case: SC

Zeenews Bureau New Delhi, Oct 22:

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to hand over the investigation into the alleged rape of a nun during communal violence in Orissa to the CBI. The Supreme Court, in its order, stated that the proceedings related to violence will be conducted by the Fast Track Courts. The Apex Court also directed the Orissa government to assist in re-building churches that were damaged in violence. The development comes days after Orissa Police claimed to have arrested the main accused in the rape case. The police have so far arrested five persons in connection with the case. However all efforts in tracing the victim have failed. A search for the nun at her native village in Sambalpur district has also yielded no results. Because of its failure to trace the rape victim, the Orissa Police have finally asked its all-women team to return from Delhi. This was confirmed by Orissa Home Secretary T K Mishra who said, “We have been unable to trace the alleged rape victim so far. The police had formed three teams to trace the nun." However, he said that the government had already urged church leaders to cooperate with the police to carry forward investigation so that the culprits could be punished.

The whole case appears to be quite curious. Why is the nun not traceable? Is the story of the nun's rape a cooked up one by the Church to tarnish the name of VHP and divert attention from the heinous murder of an aged Sanyasi and his disciples?
