BJP to take firebrand leader Uma Bharti back?

Press Trust of India, Thursday April 8, 2010, Gwalior

BJP general secretary Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday denied reports that the party was pondering over taking firebrand leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharti back into its fold.

"No discussion is on in the party over taking back Bharti," Tomar, who is also the State Party President, told reporters on the sidelines of a function at Berja village near Gwalior.

Following Bharti's resignation as president of the Bhartiya Janshakti Party, the organisation which she floated after parting ways with the BJP, speculations about her possible return in the saffron party gained ground.

There is no doubt that had Uma Bharti not left the BJP, she would have been the natural choice to succeed Advani to the post of BJP president. She was certainly popular with the cadre. Somewhere down the line, unfortunately, her fiery nature took on the hue of indiscipline and she lost direction. But no story can be written off in politics. Uma Bharti may still scale great heights in Indian politics and serve the cause of Hindutva, which is dear to her. Wishing her all the best in coming back to the BJP.
