New Delhi: Those found guilty in the controversy surrounding the financial flaws in the IPL will not be spared, said Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday in the Lok Sabha.

Mukherjee, in response to Opposition demands earlier in the day, made a statement in the House that the government has already started its investigation with all the IPL teams and assured that “appropriate action as per law” would be taken if any wrongdoing was found in the manner the IPL was funded.

“The concerned department has already started investigation process (into the IPL episode). All aspects including sources of funding and routes through which the funds arrived would be looked into. Appropriate action as per law would be taken. No guilty or wrong-doer will be spared,” Mukherjee said.

As Lalu Prasad (RJD) and Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP) continued to raise the issue, Mukherjee said, “We will look into all aspects.”

Meanwhile, BCCI’s Media and Finance Committee chairman Rajiv Shukla said that the government need not ban the IPL and that the apex cricket body will take serious measures to rectify the flaws.

The Government’s seriousness on the issue can be judged from the fact that a meeting has been called at 4 pm by the Finance Ministry which will be attended by revenue secretary, finance secretary and top enforcement directorate and income tax officials.

Importantly, I-T tax department has already asked all the IPL teams to furnish details about their finances.

Reports claim that the government will look into the report submitted by I-T department and will launch an investigation on the concerned persons and teams. It is said that an investigation has already been launched into the funding sources of Rajasthan Royals.

Earlier in the day, BCCI braced for a legal battle after a major embarrassment of I-T raids on its offices, as the Government probes into the finances and other transaction erroneous with in the Indian Premier League.

IPL, a money-churning venture of the Indian cricket board, is already being alleged of violating the Companies Act and the Income Tax Act.

The I-T department has already probed into the finances of various IPL teams and is preparing a comprehensive report on the anomalies in the financial transactions.

I hope Pranab Dada becomes honest and confesses that this probe against the IPL is only a subterfuge to regain the honour Congress has lost after the ouster of Shashi Tharoor. All the probe would be over the moment Lalit Modi resigns. That is all Congress wants. Lalit Modi should not oblige the Congress and the others in BCCI whose knees have been bent by Congress blackmailing. Lalit Modi must fight and become a hero - the Sachin Tendulkar of cricket administration.
