Vohra appeals people of Jammu for talks on Amarnath issue

Jammu, July 26:
Following rejection by SASS to sit for talks with Jammu and Kashmir government on Amarnath issue till their demand is met, Governor N N Vohra on Saturday renewed his appeal to the people of Jammu to solve the issue amicably through a dialogue process.

"...I sincerely feel that there is no issue which cannot be resolved amicably through a process of dialogue. I, therefore renew my appeal to people of Jammu to come forward and help in restoring normalcy through dialogue," the governor said in an appeal for peace circulated through local papers here today.

"Let us work together towards this goal," he said.

The Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti, the nodal agency for Amarnath agitation in Jammu region, had earlier rejected to have any dialogue with the Governor till their demand of cancellation of revoked order on land transfer is not met.

"The situation in the region is causing inconvenience to thousands of Amarnath and Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims who have come here from across the country," Vohra said adding, common people are also facing problems due to continuous closure of markets, educational institutions, offices, courts and lack of transport facilities.

Vohra also conveyed his heart-felt condolences to the bereaved family of Kuldeep Kumar Dogra, a SASS activist, who allegedly committed suicide on July 23 on Amarnath land row .

Bureau Report

A pilgrimage to Amarnath represents the religious aspirations of Hindus and there should be no belittling of it in the name of Muslim appeasement. Whether in the North at Amarnath or in the South at Ram Sethu, Hindus are being insulted without fear of reprisals. Hindus are allowing everyone to ride roughshod over them. Unless the situation changes, even the Gods will forsake Hindus. Hindus, stand up and fight! - K.Venugopal - Mumbai
